FAMILY BOARD (2012)
A cross-platforms and cross-devices service that helps family members stay connected and bring family closer. It provides a virtual place for the family to share and communicate with each other at anytime, anywhere.
Platform_ Android phone/tablet, iPhone/iPad, web, TV, and Cloud Monitor
CONNECTED FAMILIES
With the popularity of smart devices, the modern family is more connected than ever. Families can share and track moments, messages, and events through photos, memo, and calendars in a private space over the cloud. Tap on the profile photo to make direct video call, which makes real-time communication much easier, especially for the elders.
ONE ACCOUNT FOR ALL
When trusted people are involved, there is no need to overemphasize security and privacy controls. We simplified the sign up process and put family first. All family members (with distinctive ID) share one family account and password. After one done creating the family account, others are free from the validation process.
HARDWARE UI DESIGN
In order to provide a completed user experience, the TV HW should be conciderd as well:
-
Microphone on the remote for voice input.
-
A dedicated Fami app hotkey on the remote for quick access.
-
Camera on the TV for video call.
-
LED light on the TV for displaying notifications when screen is off
LIVE FAMILY JOURNAL
Stay up-to-date and keep track of family activies are easy. On the home page, it provides an overview of what is happening today. Moreover, it will automatically gernerate a beautiful family journal by events for families to enjoy.
MOM MADE EASY
The mother plays multiple roles in the family, such as the coordinator, organiser, and caregiver. This service helps to reduce the burden on moms with technology like notifications, reminders, and location tracking for kids.
THE PHOTO BAR
The research of positive psychology has shown that people can relive the happy moments by watching the photos again. Hence we use a photo bar on the top of the screen, which also becomes an unique symbol of the family and make the families emotionally connected.
RESPONSIVE UI STRUCTURE
We applied Zone system UI to fit different usages because zone themselves are independent of device types and the arrangement of zones can be very flexible.
10-FOOT UI & FITTS’S LAW
On TV, we applies the concept of 10-foot UI and the Fitts’s Law to make interaction effortlessly and efficiently. For example, use grid patterns for content layout and page-based navigation to optimise for the remote-control operations.
DESIGN CHALLENGES
FamilyBoard supports many platforms and devices, i.e..iOS, Android, and web; phone, tablet, Cloud Monitor, PC, and TV. How to reformat the information (fitting users’ content into different platforms and screen sizes), meanwhile, offer a seamless experience which meets each usage scenarios and context without compromising the platform/devices' specific features? Study hard, prototype fast.
